Kennedy Honors Stage Shines with Custom and Rental Stage Drapery

By |January 9th, 2017|Clients, Digital Printing, News, Products, Projects|2 Comments

We were excited to once again work with noted art director Alana Billingsley on the Grand Drape for the 2016 Kennedy Center Honors. When Alana reached out to Sew What? / Rent What? Senior Account Manager Gwen Winter to discuss the design vision, Alana’s original thought was to purchase an entire custom drapery package. In looking over Alana’s drawings, however, Gwen realized that the design of the Bi-Parting Drape portion was quite similar to our Crimson Cabaret Bi-Parting Drapes, part of Rent What?’s “Rockin’ Red” Drapery Collection.

Gwen’s suggestion to Alana? Achieve the design vision through a combination of rental and custom drapes, by purchasing a custom manufactured header element and renting our Crimson Cabaret drapery.

The beautiful custom header was constructed of 3 large swags of a lightweight translucent shimmery fabric in copper, along with 7 large custom ropes custom-covered in Panne Velvet in Old Gold. The Crimson Cabaret Grand Bi-Parting Drapery is manufactured of Crimson Encore Velour, highlighted by gold digitally printed elements along with gold bullion fringe.

As you can see in the photo, the combination of the purchased and rented elements, along with stage lighting, set off the theater proscenium perfectly. What a beautiful backdrop to showcase the honorees!

Mix of Rockin’ Red Rental Drapes Creates A Spectacular Look!

By |February 10th, 2016|Products, Projects|1 Comment

We love seeing the gorgeous rental drapes from our dynamic drapery collections being used for all kinds of special events, rock tours, trade shows, and even holiday parties. Recently we got to see a fantastic example of this by working with the creative folks at Rock The House Entertainment Group, who were designing a really big and sensational holiday event for a large international software company, focused around a fun-filled theme of “A Night At The Movies.”

While they had 10 “zones” in total that they had to design and decorate with a specific film’s theme, they knew that they wanted the largest zone to have a “classic cinema feel,” and so they contacted Rent What? Representative Carrie Johns to get some great ideas and suggestions for this important focal point of the event. Lead by innovative Event Designer Ryan Konikoff, and his skilled Production Manager Ryan Durfee, their team knew that they wanted floor to ceiling crimson red drapes with a traditional valance, and preferably some dazzling splashes of gold, too. Together they decided to go with some rich, velvety, dramatic drapes from our Rockin’ Red Drapery Collection, and it turned out to be a smash hit!

Using our spectacular 30’h x 31’w Crimson Cabaret pleated theatrical stage drapes, made of Encore Velour adorned with intricate gold printed detail and gold bullion fringe, with matching Crimson Cabaret border and pleated legs, as well as a 40’w Red Super-Vel swagged border, they were able to construct the exact look that their clients were hoping for. It was fantastic to see our drapes bring to life the classic cinematic feel in their renderings and sketches of this project! Hearing from their clients that “the amazing drape covering the big wall tied the whole event together” really made us very proud to be a part of such a stunningly memorable stage design. Photographed beautifully by Marissa Diaz, we can see how creatively mixing and matching drapes from the same drapery collection can create a breathtaking, one-of-a-kind event design. We’ve always loved working with Rock The House on many of their exciting projects, and we genuinely look forward to working with them again in the future.

Versatile Custom-Built Drapes Wow Audience At Recent Gala

By |July 16th, 2015|Clients, Products, Projects|1 Comment

Choosing the right custom-built soft goods can sometimes be quite daunting–there are many factors to consider, in the hopes that not only will you be able to use them for your special event, but also for future event designs as well. Color, fabric, fullness, seams, lining, and cut can all make a huge difference with the overall look and versatility of your draping. That’s why we have a team of experts here at Sew What? Inc., on hand to help guide our wonderful clients every step of the way!

Recently we were thrilled to work with one of our most creative clients, event designer Luke Gulley, who needed some soft goods built for a very important event down in San Diego, California that he and his team from MSI Meeting Services, Inc. were designing. They needed to create a beautiful and dynamic staging motif and décor for the Tony Award-Winning La Jolla Playhouse’s 2015 Annual Gala, which helped raise over $1.5 million for its Educational Outreach Programs and New Play Development Programs.

Working with our Creative Director Shane Nelsen, they came up with some gorgeous multi-purpose drapes that completely wow’d the crowd! Cranberry Party Knit Ceiling Swags helped set the mood and guide the party guests through the entrance way and into the main event. Then Truss Arch Swags and Drape Panels perfectly dressed the stage for the band’s electrifying performance. Both styles of drape were built with 5” pipe pockets along the top and bottom of the drapes, which helped give Gulley and his design team plenty of options when it came to decorating, allowing their design vision to completely come to life. Photographed spectacularly by both Gulley and in-house photographer Daniel Norwood, you can see what a dramatically breathtaking ambiance these drapes helped to create for this very exciting event. And because these drapes are in “neutral” shades of red, they will be able to use them time and time again for many special events to come.
