We were excited to once again work with noted art director Alana Billingsley on the Grand Drape for the 2016 Kennedy Center Honors. When Alana reached out to Sew What? / Rent What? Senior Account Manager Gwen Winter to discuss the design vision, Alana’s original thought was to purchase an entire custom drapery package. In looking over Alana’s drawings, however, Gwen realized that the design of the Bi-Parting Drape portion was quite similar to our Crimson Cabaret Bi-Parting Drapes, part of Rent What?’s “Rockin’ Red” Drapery Collection.

Gwen’s suggestion to Alana? Achieve the design vision through a combination of rental and custom drapes, by purchasing a custom manufactured header element and renting our Crimson Cabaret drapery.

The beautiful custom header was constructed of 3 large swags of a lightweight translucent shimmery fabric in copper, along with 7 large custom ropes custom-covered in Panne Velvet in Old Gold. The Crimson Cabaret Grand Bi-Parting Drapery is manufactured of Crimson Encore Velour, highlighted by gold digitally printed elements along with gold bullion fringe.

As you can see in the photo, the combination of the purchased and rented elements, along with stage lighting, set off the theater proscenium perfectly. What a beautiful backdrop to showcase the honorees!
