Sew What? Supports Local Jazz Fusion Band, Oui’3

By |September 30th, 2014|Clients, Digital Printing, News|1 Comment

While we may be known for providing  custom backdrops and stage drapery to big-name artists and bands like Lady Gaga, Black Sabbath, Little Big Town, did you know that we also work with smaller bands?

Oui 3--4

Recently we were excited to work with Oui’3, a local jazz fusion band.  Consisting of Bill Wiseman (guitar), Lou Castro (bass), and Jim Xavier (drums), Qui’3 performs and records original material with elements of classic and modern jazz, incorporating funk, reggae, afro-cuban, and electronica elements.

We provided the band with two digitally printed pieces – a 12′ h x 16′ w backdrop snf a 3′ h x 6′ w banner.  These two scenic pieces are the perfect sizes for a trio like Oui’3 performing at intimate jazz clubs as they offer tremendous flexibility of use.

It was great to work and support a terrific local band like Oui’3.  Check them out on their website!

Using Masking Drapes Creatively and Memorably

By |September 25th, 2014|Clients, Products, Projects|0 Comments

Recently, one of our wonderfully creative clients, Ju-Ju-Be, wanted to set up something fashionable and memorable for an important trade show here in California. Since everything the Custom-Design Diaper Bag company stands for is quality, style, innovation, and being truly unique, we knew that we here at Rent What? Inc. could help them with some beautiful soft goods for their booth that would work out perfectly—which they did!

Setting up the “tried and true” trade show booth was getting old, so Ju-Ju-Be wanted to be able to utilize their venue’s added height and design something that would help frame their booth elegantly, but would still be lightweight and easy to hang, too. By using some of our rich, velvety 50’h x 10’w Black Encore masking drapes to create some alluring swags and draping along the tops and corners of their booth, they were able to give a modern and polished feel to their booth’s overall décor that was unmatched by anyone else at the tradeshow.

We love it when we get to see our clients’ creative visions come to life using our rental soft goods. Let us help you create the exact look that you thought you could only dream of!

If so, we have a great resource for you!  It’s our “Guide to Stage Drapery Styles and Finishes.”  It is available on the web in a convenient pdf format, allowing you to both view the guide online and also to print it for future reference.

Flickr Galleries Highlight the Diversity of Custom Backdrops

By |September 16th, 2014|Products, Projects|0 Comments

I was checking out our Flickr Galleries this morning, and I was particularly struck by the many great backdrops that I saw.  The photos from these very talented photographers showcase how many different and unique ways that there are to create a custom backdrop.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs

This mixed media backdrop combines black theatrical netting with blue mylar whirlybird.  Shown first in our manufacturing facility, the Flickr photo below (part of a Flickr Gallery) highlights how spectacular the piece looks onstage with the addition of the eyeball prop.

The Postal Service

Long narrow strips of a silvery textured fabric appliqued onto mesh create the illusion of pipes in this unusual backdrop for The Postal Service, recreating a previous stage set which featured real pipes.

Combining a handpainted applique element with a traditional Black Encore backdrop makes for a dramatic backdrop for Soundgarden, especially under stage lighting as in this photo.

So, as you can see, the possibilities for an interesting, innovative backdrop are numerous, so why not try something different the next time you need a backdrop?

Team Challenge #2: And The Winner Is

By |September 9th, 2014|Company, News, Rent What Team, Sew What Team|0 Comments

Last week we had a blast enjoying a delicious Teriyaki Chicken luncheon outside our warehouse in the fresh air, with California’s sunshine kissing our shoulders and the soft breeze keeping everyone comfortable. This was all in honor of our next Team Challenge win! We have already introduced our company’s new motivational way of inspiring our various groups of employees to provide the most incredible products possible, with the most comprehensive customer service, and all still at competitive prices. Well, it’s hard to believe that another quarter has already gone by, and again we got to celebrate one of the team’s extraordinary hard work and productivity.

Team Challenge 2

We are very proud to announce that the winner of this quarter’s Team Challenge was…..The Manufacturing Team, again!! They did such a phenomenal job this quarter, and met ALL of their goals for this period. The other two teams are going to have to work extra hard to try to keep up with the exceptional standards that our great Manufacturing Team have set forth for these challenges! We also announced this quarter’s Rock Star award too, which this time went to Carlos Morales who is also in our Manufacturing Team. He’s done such an outstanding job as our Digital Printer Operator, going above and beyond to help all departments in the warehouse, that he was a shoe-in to receive this well-deserved award and recognition.

Carlos, 1 (79)

We are already looking forward to our next Team Challenge, and see who will come out on top next time!
