Meet the Rent What? Staff, Part 4: Gwen Winter

By |September 28th, 2012|Company, Rent What Team|2 Comments

Next in our series of Meet the RW? Staff is Gwen Winter. She is the newest member to join Rent What?, but has been working with Sew What? for the past 3+ years, and comes to us with decades of experience in the fabric industry. Because of her diverse work history with the company, we are able to use her brilliance for rental calls as well as sales referrals to Sew What?, and pretty much anything in between. Her incredible work ethic, as well as her ability to have ten spinning plates in the air at one time, have all made her an invaluable member of the RW? family. We are so excited to have her now officially working with us, too! Read further to get to know Gwen a little bit, and you’ll see why we are so very glad to have her as part of our team.

When did you first start at Sew What?/Rent What?

Gwen started with Sew What? back in March of 2009, and came aboard with Rent What? in July of 2012.

If you could take a vacation to anywhere in the world, where would you go?

She has always had going on safari in Africa at the top of her “bucket list”, where she could actually sleep with the animals and really become one with nature.

What kind of work did you do before coming to Sew What?/Rent What?

Gwen was the West Coast manager of a theatrical fabric company, which is why her knowledge of fabric and draping is unparalleled!

Do you have a special talent?

She is extremely crafty, and can fix practically anything with a glue gun or a needle and thread.

What is your favorite memory from being part of the Rent What? family?

Some favorite memories stem around the themed events that we have here all year long, that always get everyone involved. Events like Elvis’s Birthday, the yearly Halloween costume contest, and of course the Christmas party are always a lot of fun and a great way for everyone from the different departments to get to spend some really fun time with one another.

What is your favorite sports team/TV Show?

Gwen absolutely loves the Big Bang Theory, and finds it completely hysterical!

What are some of your hobbies?

She loves anything that involves crafts—everything from cake decorating, gourd decorating, woodcrafting, and basically anything that involves a power tool! (watch out now!!)

What project have you worked on recently that was interesting or challenging?

Gwen has been working extremely hard on helping create an inventory of modular Silver Satin Austrian drapes for Rent What? to be able to offer to their eager clients. By adding hidden zippers along the vertical length of the drapes, it can enable narrower drapes to be added together to form a single larger drape. The concept of being able to do this, with an Austrian drape especially, was very exciting for Gwen. She can’t wait until they are finished and being used all over the world by our clients!

Anything more about your time here at RW?

The atmosphere in general here is incredible—management really respects ALL of its employees, from those in the warehouse to administration to sales. “Thank you” is a term used here quite often, which is not very common with most companies. It is something that is very highly appreciated by Gwen!

Backdrop for Rod Stewarts “The Hits” at Caesar’s Palace

By |September 18th, 2012|Clients, Projects|2 Comments

As you know, Sew What? Inc. has enjoyed a long relationship of building custom stage curtains for Rod Stewart.  Remember the gorgeous “in the round” pleated curtain and stage skirts in the Stewart Family Tartan from 2007?   What about the beautiful Voile curtains of 2008?

Well, as Rod Stewart continues his wildly successful two-year residency, “The Hits,” at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas, I thought our readers would be interested in learning about the beautiful backdrop that we made for this show.  This huge main stage backdrop (45′ h x 140′ w) is really dramatic.  Constructed of Hot Pink Poly Muslin, the backdrop has a beautiful translucent quality when backlit.  The addition of handpainted words and images makes the backdrop even more striking.

Folks are raving about the show, so if you are going to be in Vegas any time soon, make sure you check it out!  Here is a video with a little taste.
